Debian is a Linux distribution, you can read about it at:

	http://www.debian.org/

There is also a "live" cd distribution based on Debian called Knoppix that 
boots and runs directly from the CD without touching your hard disk (unless 
you tell it to), which is a good way of letting people unfamiliar with Linux 
test it out as well as testing whether that nice new laptop down the shops 
will work with Linux. :-)
