Your XSLT is not valid. You may not put an element inside an
attribute.

   <img>
      <xsl:attribute name="src">
        <xsl:apply-templates/><!-- better: xsl:value-of select="." -->
      <xsl:/attribute>
   </img>

XSL questions are best asked on specialized lists and are OT here.
