I recently updated my box to Fedora Core 5. After the installation I
attempted to download xine and xine-ui via Yum. No results, not found;
I then went to xine site and downloaded the rpm's. After the rpm's
installed, with many many many problems, missing sub-libraries, and
broken links, I finally got xine to run. However, of the several
hundred Music Video's which I have, xine refuses about two thirds,
claiming no codecs present. Previously I had downloaded several codec
packs via rpm, and they appeared to install ok.
My earlier xine install was never like this, it went smoothly and worked
flawlessly. This time, something isn't correct. I am hoping you will
tell me what I am doing incorrectly.
Anyway, could I get some advice on the following questions (and please
do not assume that I know anything about Linux, just KISS):
1. What directory does xine in reside once it is installed?
2. What directory do all of the codecs reside in; can they be in
sub-directories under the main directory?
3. What codec packages are needed to make xine run to include DVD's,
avi's, wma's, mpegs. mpg. and about a dozen other formats.
4. Is there a central respoitory address I can add to yum to keep xine
updated by yum?
5. Why is the font and the display in the "set-up" window distorted?
That is, the font seems too large and will not fit into the small text
windows of the mask, thus making it impossible to actually read what
setting is being made.
6. Is there a command line set of instructions which I can use when
starting xine?
