i installed xine with emerge and can not start it. i wonder why your test-prog 
prints out that i am using a pre-2.2-kernel because this isn't right. maybe 
the non-standard uname output can explain that.
here's in addition the output of the konsole in which i ran xine:

xiTK WARNING(xitk_font_load_font:432): loading font 
"*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-*-*" failed, default and system fonts 
"(null)" and "fixed" failed too
xitk_font_set_font(843): condition '(xtfs) != NULL' failed. Aborting.

i tried to change the system-fonts at the kde-controlcenter but it didn't work 
either.
