IIRC, the VCD plugin handled MRLs a bit strange. Could you try 
vcd:/<absolute_path>? (Which results in something like vcd://usr/sr...)

What example line do you mean? The one showing the default value? Yes, 
there is a space, the actual value comes after the space. But why 
editing the file by hand after all... ;)

That seems to be some VCD specific error. Unfortunately, I don't know 
anything about VCD, so I cannot help you any further. If going through 
the VCD related sections of the FAQ does not help, you could turn to 
the vcdimager project at http://www.gnu.org/software/vcdimager/ because 
the code that emits this error is coming from them.
