You actually removed xmlparser.c completely right now. I guess that was not 
intended? ;)

On the actual problem: Since we used the same linking for quite some time now 
and it always worked on Solaris (otherwise I would have expected people to 
complain much earlier) are you sure this is not just a libtool bug?

From the way I read the libtool docs, linking an internal convenience library 
is equivalent to linking the individual object files from within this 
library. I don't know why this would inhibit symbol exporting.
