use the R200 dri driver (http://dri.sf.net)
or alternatively wait and see
that this gets officially "fixed".

Subject: [Xpert]ati radeon 8500, "powered by ati" third party graphics
adapter, third party board
I Have ATI RADEON 8500, "POWERED BY ATI", made by SAPPHIRE.
What the heck? Why is ATI not supporting the "POWERED BY" products? Is there
any solution of this? I have heard all those stupid solutions with pci id,
but it does not work...so is there any other solution?:
