Hello,
Some generic instructions:
1. If you are using KDE/Qt to check for antialiasing, please look at the
XftConfig file, usually located at /etc/X11/ or .usr/X11R6/lib/X11/ and add
all the font directories to the path listed there. (Qt uses Xft.) Make sure
Qt was compiled with -xft. To check this, do "ldd konqueror" and see if
libXft, libXrender and libfreetype.so.6 turn up. If not, you need to
recompile Qt. In the KDE section of your ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals, you
should set AntiAliasing=true. I forget where it is available in the control
center, probably under look 'n feel/style.
2. If you use Gtk-based apps, compile from the latest CVS. IIRC, antialiasing
support has been available for less than a month in Gtk.
3. Seeing your fontpath, I assume you are using RH7 or one of its mdk
derivatives. I would strongly recommend junking the xfs that it uses and
using the native Xfree font handling. To do that, comment out the current
fontpath line and replace with something like
FontPath "/path/to/fonts"
FontPath "/even/more/fonts"
You can find your fontpath by looking at /etc/X11/fs/config under the
"catalogue" entry for a RH7 system. I don't recall where mdk puts its files.
4. As for nvidia drivers, please do "/sbin/lsmod" and if NVdriver is loaded.
If not, I recommend reading the NVIDIA_Linux.html file found in
/usr/share/doc/NVIDIA* for an rpm installation of the drivers. Please make
sure you use the correct rpms for you kernel version.
5. Please have a look at /var/log/Xfree86.0.log (or wherever you put the
Xfree log files) and make sure there are no errors. The bits about the RENDER
extension are usually found close to the end.
Hope this helps,
Ravi
