KOffice 1.2.x uses KDE 3.x, KDE 3.x uses FontConfig (if compiled against Qt 
3.1 and XFree86 with FontConfig support)

So, about KOffice:  answer is yes, it supports FontConfig already.

OpenOffice has to be fixed, if it isn't fixed already.
