That is correct. When we did a test last night, we were able to reach 99
but there was only one other user online at the time. We have the limit
in xinetd set to 100, so we expected that. The problem is that most of
the time we never get more than 40 to 50. After that, the server stops
responding. It is _possible_ that the DSL is maxed out at the time. All
we have to go on is user reports that it never responded for them. Of course
they send this at night and by the time we get the email, it's cleared itself
up.

So you're saying you can reach 99 some of the time, but not all?

Yes, there is no limit set.
In fact, we tried last night and managed to get 99 transfers going at once.
A new piece of information. Our DSL bandwidth is maxed out about 50%
of the time. No idea if the two events happen at the same time.

Ok, I know this isn't going to be much to go on, but my boss said to ask...

We're running wu-ftpd on RH 7.1 We've noticed what seems to be a cap on
the number of users that can ftp from us. It's not a configuration thing (at
least not wu-ftp). But when there are somewhere around 40-50 users connected
subsequent users just can't connect. The system load average is very low (0.1
at most). I checked the xinetd config file and it has the limit set to 100, so
    that shouldn't be it.

Is there anything we should look for? Perhaps a limit on the number of sockets
    that can be opened?

    Hi,

I assume you've set the limit in ftpaccess to be sufficiently high?
