Oh, this one has a beard already, confirmed on 2.6.10 also

No, gui.start_title _is_ supported (at least it is on 2.6.10), just not
conveniently from the preference dialog (only through the advanced tab). I
personally need it when having multiple instances (5 or 6) running and try to
make sense of my screen.
And both are config items are present in older configuration files, so items
like these have to be actively ignored to differentiate them from errors in the
file.
