This report concerns a subtle prelight anomaly seen on macOS systems if and
when the mouse cursor should cross over several of the Wireshark toolbar items.
An affected toolbar item darkens as the cursor moves over it but does not
lighten as the cursor moves away.

To create the issue simply click in the main Wireshark window and move the
mouse cursor over the toolbar objects.

The affected toolbar items get progressively darker with each successive pass
of the mouse cursor. In the case of the "Stop capturing packets" button when
the cursor has passed over it once, the stop button appears clickable as if we
are capturing when there is in fact capturing is not active.

The state of some of the tool bar items (enabled/disabled) determines if this
behavior is seen; this includes the "Start capturing packets", "Automatically
scroll to the last packet during a live capture" and the "Draw packets using
your coloring rules" buttons.

The affected controls will immediately display normally if window focus is
moved away from Wireshark or if one simply tries to switch between Wireshark's
own windows with the [Command]+[`] keyboard sequence.

This issue has been seen when running the official Wireshark packages on
several macBook systems running macOS 10.13.9 (High Sierra) and on VMs running
macOS 10.14.6 (Mojave).

This behavior seems to be limited to the macOS install packages generated by
the Wireshark project. I'm currently unable to replicate the issue with
locally built Wireshark even after building with several different versions of
the Qt toolkit.

This prelight issue can be traced back to development buildbot packages created
on or before 29 September 2019 with "Wireshark 3.1.1rc0-405-g486c6fd07cd6 Intel
64.dmg" the earliest buildbot version I have on hand that exhibits the issue.
An earlier development release retrieved on 19 September 2019 for "Wireshark
3.1.1rc0-346-ga5445705469d Intel 64.dmg" does NOT exhibit this issue.

Here's the strange thing. This weekend I triggered the macOS buildbot to
rebuild commit a5445705469d and this newly rebuilt package (renamed locally to
"Wireshark 3.1.1rc0-346-ga5445705469d Intel 64 - Buildbot Redo.dmg") suffers
from the prelight issue.

This prelight anomaly is also visible with several of the more recent
production releases available from the main download site including "Wireshark
3.2.1 Intel 64.dmg" (2020-01-15 19:28) going back to "Wireshark 3.0.6 Intel
64.dmg" (2019-10-23 18:39).

"Wireshark 3.0.5 Intel 64.dmg" (2019-09-20 18:55) does not have the prelight
issue.

The timeline suggests that something changed in the macOS build environment
between 2019-09-20 and 2019-09-29 that now affects all subsequent 3.x macOS
builds; note that the recent macOS package 2.6.14 (2020-01-15 19:53) does not
appear to have the issue.

A couple of PNGs will be attached to this report to illustrate the prelight
anomaly.
