I think that the term freenet is too confusing. It means too many
different things to different people.

How do people feel about the term DAN for District Area Network?

This gets into a series of very sticky issues.

I think that the issue of protocols, authentication, and whatnot should be
saved for a little later, but that's just me.

Well... that's the problem, essentially...

Do we really want to become the police?

Once we keep logs about who does what when, we begin to have a number of
obligations about those logs. How are the logs collected? How are the logs
stored? To whom do we make the logs available?

Would a police search warrant make us give up the logs? How about an
informal request? What about a company who wants to know whose been
warezing them?

By conciously not collecting logs, we avoid many of these issues.
