It you take the approach of clients rendering wikitext into HTML, you
can use jqueryMsg
(https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Messages_API#mediawiki.jqueryMsg)

Of course, non MediaWiki clients will have to use the error code or some
other string.
