"By fixing netrc.c."  :-)  Just kidding.  I'll forward your report to
Gord Matzigkeit, who maintains the file.  Also, I'll try to fix it
myself.

I'm not sure I get this.  Isn't Wget supposed to log you either as
anonymous or from .netrc?  I wasn't aware of it trying one and then
the other.

The latter message is spurious.  I'll try to fix it so it is printed
only when there were really no matches.

As a workaround, you can specify it in an input file.  For instance:

wget -i - <<EOF
ftp://USER:PASSWD@somewhere.com/dir/file
EOF
