Here is how I see it (someone else may come up with a better answer). On my iPad \
there are three dots to the right of the notifications. On my computer, I have to \
hover over the notification to get the three dots to appear. Once you click on the \
three dots, you have a list of options that appear. One of them is to turn off \
notifications for this post or status. What I do not see is turning off the \
notifications for an individual. I do find that a shortcoming in Facebook.

My esteemed listmates,
I need to pare down my Facebook account.
All that I've read Googling advises how to turn off all notifications in various \
categories.
Is there any way to turn off notifications for certain people?
I get this question from lots of patrons.
Thank you.
Charles.
