*Just One Day Left to Register! Ebooks, NISO Virtual Conference, October
5, 2016*

Only 24 hours remain for completing arrangements, if you want to
participate in the live broadcast!

Developing and delivering a book in today's digital environment is a
complex activity. No single stakeholder has full control over the final
user experience, and reader expectations are ever expanding. Attend this
NISO virtual conference on *Wednesday, October 5*, and learn more about the
current challenges, both for established as well as emerging players in the
e-book world. Eight speakers provide attendees with a robust six-hour
update in a program, scheduled to run from *11:00am through 5pm*.

NISO's event opens with a foundational overview by a major platform
provider as to what users are experiencing regarding platforms, devices,
and interfaces. Then we'll hear from an expert on the behavioral data that
reveals what users expect and need when engaging with book-length content
on a digital device. (See what Andrew Rhomberg revealed about user data in this
March 2016 article in the New York Times
<http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/15/business/media/moneyball-for-book-publishers-for-a-detailed-look-at-how-we-read.html?_r=0>.)
What happens when a book isn't the only or the best way for delivering
scholarship? A researcher tells you! The program features sessions on the
nitty-gritty of ebooks—metadata, business models, and more, closing with
two case studies and the signature feature of NISO events, a round-table
discussion that surfaces ebook-related trends and issues that may soon
demand greater attention.

*Speakers include*:

*Jacob Wilcock*, Director, Publishing Technologies, Atypon, speaking on *Laying
the Groundwork: Platforms, Devices, & Interfaces*

*Andrew Rhomberg*, Founder, Jellybooks, speaking on *Reader Usage and
Behavioral Data: Observing Readers in Their Natural Habitat*

*Janine Barchas*, Professor of English, University of Texas-Austin speaking
on *What Jane Saw: Because Some Scholarship Cannot Fit Inside A Book*

*Chip Nilges*, Vice President for Business Development, OCLC, speaking
on *Making
the Metadata Work*

*Luke Swindler*, Collections Management Officer, Collection Development,
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, speaking on *Business Models: New
Challenges & New Opportunities*

*Alistair Morrison*, ScienceDirect Senior Product Manager for Books,
Elsevier, speaking on *The EBook as a Scholarly Work in an Ephemeral Medium*

*Case Studies* from:

*Rich Baraniuk*, Founder, *OpenStax*, and

*Judy Luther*, President, Informed Strategies, and Consultant to *Knowledge
Unlatched*

Don't forget that registering for a NISO virtual conference allows group
viewing of the event and includes access to a downloadable recording of the
day's presentations. For additional specifics, see the NISO event page.
