federal benefits,
they asked for a complete list of those benefits. They also asked
for a list of benefits that would be denied during "probationary status."Further,
they asked for an estimate of the cost to taxpayers in the
10 years after illegal immigrants are granted green cards, as well as
for the 10 years after citizenship.Republican staffers on the Senate Budget
Committee estimated last week that the annual cost to taxpayers of legalizing
illegal immigrants could be in the billions. But Rubio spokesman Alex Conant
disputed the numbers, saying in a statement last week that it's simply
too early to provide cost estimates."Since we don't yet have a legislative
proposal, it's not possible to come up with anything resembling an accurate
calculation about the potential fiscal impact of bipartisan immigration
reform," he said.Conant added that Rubio is concerned about the "potential
fiscal impact" of the bill and will request an "in-depth" budget analysis. While
these applicants could eventually tap federal benefits, proponents of the
path to citizenship will argue that they could help bring revenue into
Washington by entering the workforce legally and paying taxes.

is out again in untold hundreds of thousands probably millions
of Venezuelan homes. If the government knows how many,
it's not saying. It hasn't issued reports on problems in the public
power grid since 2010.In Venezuela's third-largest city, Pedro Martinez

his one-story, cement-block house in a middle-class district. The Caribbean

a candle close so a reporter can take notes. It's the day's
second outage. The first struck just after noon. It's been like this for
five years, pretty mu

<p style="font-size:xx-small;"> Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who faced \
criticism for controversial comments about same-sex marriage, stepped down Wednesday \
as the commencement speaker for the university.Carson sent medical school Dean Paul \
Rothman a letter, obtained by FoxNews.com, saying that he didnt want to distract
from the celebratory nature of the day.""Commencement is about the students
and their successes, and it is not about me," Carson wrote. "I
want to make certain that remains so."In the past few weeks, Carson
has backtracked on comments he made about gay marriage. In an interview
on Fox News, he had said "no group, be they gays, be
they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality ... they don't
get to change the definition" of marriage.Carson, who has become a rising
conservative star after publicly questioning Obama's health care overhaul
earlier this year, later apologized. On Friday, Rothman released a statement
calling Carsons comments offensive and said the university recognizes that
tension now exists in our community because hurtful, offensive language
was used by our colleague, Dr. Ben Carson, when conveying a personal
opinion. Dr. Carsons comments are inconsistent with the culture of our \
institution.Carson also stepped down as the speaker for the Johns Hopkins University \
School of Education diploma ceremony.Given all the national media surrounding my
statements as to my belief in traditional marriage, I believe it would

North Korea's new leader is using the threat of a nuclear strike
to get concessions on foreign aid rather than trying to trigger military
conflict, top U.S. intelligence officials told Congress Thursday.Director
of National Intelligence James Clapper told the House intelligence committee
that he thinks new North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is trying
to show the U.S., the world and his own people that he
is "firmly in control in North Korea," while attempting to maneuver the
international community into concessions in future negotiations."I don't
think...he has much of an endgame other than to somehow elicit recognition,"
and to turn the nuclear threat into "negotiation and to accommodation and
presumably for aid," Clapper said.Clapper said the intelligence community
believes the North would only use nuclear weapons to preserve the Kim
regime, but says they do not know how the regime defines that.Defense
Secretary Chuck Hagel said at a different congressional hearing that he
does not believe North Korea, nor Iran, have the technical ability to
reach the continental U.S. with its nuclear weapons yet."Now does that mean
that won't have it or they can't have it or they're not
working on it?" Hagel said. "No. That's why this is a very
dangerous situation."Joint Chiefs chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey, testifying
with Hagel before the House Armed Services Committee, would not say whether
North Korea has the capacity to arm a ballistic missile with
