I think this is a 'feature' of XMOS based receiver boards; mine reacts 
in the same way. I placed these commands

   amixer -c 0 sset 'XMOS Clock Selector',0 100% unmute
   amixer -c 0 sset 'XMOS Clock Selector',1 100% unmute

in /etc/rc.local.

Punky's script is cooler. Just replace the control name with yours.
