To implement VRRP
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Router_Redundancy_Protocol). I run alix
boxes on voyage as firewall/gateway (they can do 100Mbit line speed no
problem, even with iptables filtering). VRRP is implemented by the keepalived
package in Debian, which has a dependency on the ipvsadm package, which has a
dependency on IPVS support in the kernel, which can be enabled as a
module (it's called ip_vs). The Debian kernels have it enabled.

Thanks,
Ward.
