Hmm..

I have my colorschemes inside my own vimfiles/colors directory (same
location where I keep my plugins etc.) and is separate from the main vim
directory -- doesn't get overwritten during installation etc.

Create a "colors" under your personal vimfiles and slap a colorscheme in
there -- it SHOULD work.
