i have a dell inspiron 7000 with rh 7.1 and i've been having trouble getting
viavoice to work at all.  i have an ess-maestro2 sound card. i can't
get past the creation of a personal voice model.  i'm using jre1.2.2FCS.
i've tried jre1.2.2 RC4, rh 6.2, rh 7.0.  i've tried all 3 os'es,
each with jre rc4 and fcs.  i can record a sound file, i can play
it back, i can play the viavoice output sound file, i can get viavoice
to set the mic level, but it locks up when it goes to 'creating my personal
voice model', when i press start,  nothing happens except the start
button changes to a pause button.  there's no audio level. the mic
sound stops coming thru the speaker.  eventually, if you start reading
the paragraph and keep re-reading it, it will say 'finished processing'
or something, but that's 5 min. into it.  gibberish starts appearing
on the xterm screen and an excuse comes up in it.  as soon as i get
it again, i'll post it.sorry, the excuse/reason for failure comes out as corrupted \
text.

so, when i press the 'next' button on the 'personal voice model' page, a new, blank \
window appears,

and shortly there after, it disappears and even more complicated text in some alien \
text symbol font

appears in the xterm window.  then i get a blinking xterm cursor.

i need help, badly.

another thing is that vv can't find a font specified in font.properties.

[--symbol-medium-r-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-adobe-fontspecific}

        ^ that's the font that's missing
