I found it to be very easy. That first program I wrote after
discovering the VVSDK was one that did exactly that (which I find
to be a little eerie, but hey...) It took me a small amount of time
to figure out everything I needed to know, but I got everything working
while goofing around in less than a single weekend. I had a little hack
program that responded to about 5 or 6 questions/instructions, actually,
my favorite of which was reading the headlines on /. to me. :) A lot of
the things I had to figure out are now FAQs in this list, so if you do
decide to try anything read the archive of the list first. :)
Just as a side note, I used rsynth to do the voice output. The latest
version of Festival has come out since, however, and I'd recommend using
that, as it sounds about 1000% better.
