Darren,
you are on the right track.
We have come to the same conclusions to run a SharePlex copy inside
a cluster.
You need an SQL script to change the database instance name.

That seems to be the trick.  Initially, our DBA said that it wouldn't be
possible, but after trying some things he got it to work.  So now, we
can start the standby database with a different SID.  That does keep all
the VCS monitors happy.

We're not done yet, but things look promising now.  :-)
