The OP expressly stated he does NOT want to multiplex.   He mentioned it
only to contrast to it to what he does want to do.  It appears he was
asking how to run bpdulicate to multiple streams.   So far as I know
that requires the backup to have been done in multiple streams.  (That
is to say has different file selections so that it runs more than one
stream.)   We do that here and our duplications are run by vault by
image.   Since each stream is an image each stream will vault
separately.  I'm not sure how one does that with bpdulicate command at
CLI.

That's "preserve multiplexing."

AFAIK, there is any way to multiplex images except when they are made,
so do it then or never.  (None of the pointers in the catalog of the
images would be valid if they were mixed into a combined backup--it
would take laying the files back out and then repackaging them all to
get the insides of the backup correct.)

As others have pointed out, if you're duplicating disk-based images,
you ought to be able to read off the disk fast enough to max out tape
drive speed.  If you can't, that's the area to attack for performance.
