That's totally weird!

Here is what I did in Kubuntu feisty:
- Add the feisty repo to /etc/apt/sources.list
- Add the innotek key
- sudo apt-get install VirtualBox
- Accept the license agreement
- Compile vboxdrv (the installer did that)
- Run innotek VirtualBox
- Create a new Virtual Machine
- Let it use the Syllable iso
- Run it, boot from disk, and install
- Reboot, and enjoy

Maybe you were using an older or a development version of VirtualBox?
or maybe a corrupt iso (that's not rare with sourceforge.net)?
