If you are looking at using OpenGl in your application the use 
http://gtkglext.sourceforge.net/
There are documents and examples.
If you just want to use OpenGl you can just use Mesa which is an
Open Source replacement for OpenGl and is liked from the OpenGl 
homepage. Good luck.
