I've found that you need to get the format right. For instance, it won't let
you use a multicast MAC address and generates a random one instead. You can
see the error if you do a dmesg in the guest. I've settled on a format of
aa:aa:xx:xx:xx:xx where xx is the four positions of the guest ip address
converted to hex. Seems to be working.
