I would suggest you start with a prebuilt root filesystem to get things
going.  You can download one from uml.nagafix.co.uk.  I believe that the
 preset login on those images is "root" with no password.

I would also recommend that you not email the list until you have spent
a fair amount of time searching the web (and the archives of this list)
for your answer.  Take at least 4-5 hours to search the web before you
ask a question.  You will get your answers quicker, and you will not
have spent the time of all the people on this list for basic questions.

I would also highly recommend Jeff Dike's book "User Mode Linux".  It
helped me get set up rather quickly, and answered many questions I could
not find answers to any other place.  It will step you through the setup
of your first UML, and tell you what to type in many cases.
