That message can be mostly ignored, the problem is another.

Likely: rebuild the kernel, but do a "make defconfig ARCH=um" before the 
rebuild - it's the only real way to get the real default settings. It should 
be unnecessary, but a Kbuild bug makes it necessary, in many cases.
