Good afternoon,
I have three Samba file servers running Fedora 13. I have unison setup as hub and \
spoke with the middle server performing the replication. Everything is working as \
expected except the replication of file owners. I'm getting the error:
UNISON 2.32.52 started propagating changes at 15:43:24 on 04 Jan 2011

I'm running unison with a normal user account and I'm not using sudo. I know this \
error is not related directly to unison but rather the use of the chmod command in \
Linux. I can use the chmod command by itself and I get a similar error. When I use \
chmod as root or sudo, it works fine which is as expected with root. Also, when I \
run unison as root, the owner is replicated just fine which is also expected.
My question is how can I use chmod with a regular user account? I'm sure the error \
I'm getting in unison will be fixed if I can figure that out. I've done some \
research for possible solutions but nothing has helped so far. I've seen posts that \
mentioned turning off selinux. I temporarily disabled selinux but the chmod command \
still fails as a normal user. I've seen other posts that mention editing the \
/etc/fstab file. I haven't modified that file yet but I'm probably going to try it.
I've also noticed there's a beta version of unison that includes the dontchmod \
preference. This preference prevents unison from calling the chmod command. Before \
I upgrade my servers, I wanted a little more information first. By setting this \
preference, will unison still copy over the owner of files? Or will it silently skip \
it? Thanks for help in advance!
