I've heard this but it has never worked for me.  The following is the 
contents of unisonTest.prf:

root = /home/ninji/unisonTest
root = /mnt/beanalbyE/backup/unisonTest
perms = 0
-------------------------

/home/ninji/unisonTest is a normal dir, /mnt/beanalbyE is a mounted 
samba share.  Both folders contain 'a.txt', and /home/ninji/unisonTest 
has a newly created 'b.txt'.  Running Unison gives the following:

ninji@paperweight ~ $ unison unisonTest

Looking for changes
Reconciling changes

ninji/uni...   backup/un...
new file ---->            b.txt  [f] f

Running with "-debug all" verifies that perms is being set to 0 
properly.  Any idea what's going on?
