Hi,

I'm looking for a solution to syncronise two /home directories (mainly
just pushing changes in one direction actually) on two different machines.

The problem is that they contain files with different uid's and gids.

One solution is running unison as root, but since I want to automate
things, I'd need to leave a remote root connection open. Bad idea.

Pulling tarballs and syncing those (creating and extracting the tarball
could be done as root to avoid permission problems, the unison-sync
could on the tars then be done as a simple user) meight be another
option, but I think it would require a lot more bandwith, and a lot of
temp disk space on both hosts. Not an option, therefore.

Are there any other solutions (suid unison bin?) with unison that are
reasonable safe?

Or are there other solutions in general that could solve this problem?

Thanks in advance,
