>>>>>
>>>>> Just to let you know, because I didn't mention this earlier, \
I did
>>>>> uninstall and reinstall the printer.
>>>>>
>>>> Sorry for the delayed reply - I have to go to work.
>>>>
>>>> It looks like your printer is now detected and working on Bus 001 \
Device
>>>> 014, can you try scanning with xsane from the terminal \
again & show the
>>>> output?
>>>>
>>>> This is a complete WAG: try installing bjnp to see if that clears \
the
>>>> bjnp port issue:
>>>>
>>>> $ sudo apt-get install cups-backend-bjnp
>>>>
>>>> Afterwards, see if there is any change when using 'scanimage
>>>> --list-devices'.
>>>>
>>>>
>>>>
>>>>
>>> Here is the scanimage I forgot in the last email.
>>>
>>> scott@main:~$ scanimage
>>> [bjnp] create_broadcast_socket: bind socket to local address failed \
-
>>> Cannot assign requested address
>>> scanimage: output is not a file, exiting
>>> scott@main:~$ --list-devices
>>>
>>>
>>
>> Other than the "[bjnp] create_broadcast_socket: bind socket to \
local
>> address failed" part, the scanimage command shows that your \
scanner is
>> working, at least code-wise - otherwise it would have \
responded with:
>>
>> $ scanimage
>> scanimage: no SANE devices found
>>
>> The "scanimage: output is not a file, exiting" is normal as you \
didn't
>> specify an output. Put something in the scanner and:
>>
>> $ scanimage > image.pnm
>>
>> Then providing that you don't get 'scanimage: open of device \
kodak...
>> failed" enter:
>>
>> $ eog > image.pnm
>>
>> and let me know if you seen the scan.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>
> This is what I get:
> scott@main:~$ scanimage > image.pnm
> [bjnp] create_broadcast_socket: bind socket to local address failed -
> Cannot assign requested address
> scanimage: sane_read: Error during device I/O
> scott@main:~$ eog > image.pnm
>
> The image is blank.
>

Check dmesg for the last 20 lines or so & see if any useful information
is there.

> 1. The problem is that I can't connect to many sites using Flash.
> 2. Shockwave is strongly suspected, Firefox disables the Shockwave
>
> 1. The version of Shockwave for the new version of Ubuntu/Mate 14.04.1
> the problem. Firefox has disabled it.
>
> 2. I dual boot with Windows 7 and I also am having problems connecting
> to Windows update??? Could it be that I have a Windows malwaret? If
> so, can it affect Linux? (I don't think so.) My problems with
> connecting to Windows update might just be due to me trying to connect
> during a busy time of day. 11:00 AM EST. I'm going to try later \
tonight.
>
> Is this Shockwave version the most up to date version? Perhaps A FF
> user cold look up the version that they are using. If it is not the
> latest version, how can I get the latest version? I looked in the
> Ubuntu repository and can't find it.
