Wait, does the Alt+Tab combination work if you disable compiz?

If it does it's likely you have some awkward key binding that you
forgot about in your compiz settings.

To find out, go to System >> Preferences >> CompizConfig Settings
Manager >> click Advanced Search:

- uncheck the "Short description and name" checkbox
- uncheck the "Long description" checkbox
- check the "Settings Value" checkbox
- type "tab" in the search field and hit enter.

If you see on the right pane among the list of results something using
up <Alt>Tab as a key binding, then you've found the reason for this
combination not working as you'd expect it to.

Other than that, sorry, I have no idea what might be wrong.
