Sorry, my bad. Kontact was the program that got KMail running. Kontact 
looks very much like Evolution does. Running KMail stand-alone still 
causes segfaults, but run through Kontact (this mail written in KMail) 
it seems to work fine.

This coincided with the first 3.4.0 packages of KDE, so I am inclined to 
think that this is related to that.
