I haven't seen anything on Microsoft's site, but in a response to a
newsgroup question on the topic, a MS rep said the limit was 20
characters. Also, if you create a local user account on 2003, it will
stop accepting characters in the username field after the first 20.

I could be wrong here, but I believe that the 20 character limit is only
for mailboxes (not Exchange, just W2003 mailboxes), or for NT 4.0 and
earlier.

Can anyone comment on a greater than 20 character policy for logon names
that is current in place and active?

I don't set user accounts in our AD, but on Windows 2003, you can't have
a username longer than 20 characters, at least a local user. I believe
the maximum password is 128 characters.

Even if you could have a 64 character username, I don't think I'd want
to set a user anywhere near there. Even 20 is quite long and a lot of my
users would probably make a typo whenever they logged into Citrix from
outside (we don't allow credential passing to Citrix.)

Hi all-

We are running an 8-server (Win2003) Citrix farm with all users managed
in AD. All our clients are Windows XP variants.

Currently, we are limiting the username to 20 characters. Is this
really necessary? It seems the _real_ limit is 104, with 64 being the
recommended for Windows, but is there something different with Citrix?
I know that used to be a limit, but is it still?

Thanks!
