happens with Word and Excel 2000 SR1

When the user wants to save a file and types
a name when the directory is pointing to a local drive, characters
appear quickly on the screen, but if the directory is pointing to a
shared drive, characters appear VERY SLOWWW.

have anyone seen this before ??
