NEW DEADLINE: March 15, 2005
Call for Papers
2005 Tyrrhenian International Workshop on Digital Communications
TIWDC 2005
Distributed Cooperative Laboratories - Issues in Networking, Instrumentation
and Measurements
July 4-6, 2005
Sorrento, Italy
http://www.tyrrhenian.cnit.it
Progress in Telecommunications and Networking is fostering the development
of high-speed and ubiquitous networks, both wired and wireless,
characterized by an unprecedented degree of transport capacity and
flexibility. At the same time, laboratory equipment for measurement and
experimental evaluation of devices and systems is available, with a wide
range of sophistication and complexity. Activities such as distance
learning, performance monitoring and testing may now receive a support
capable of making them truly distributed and highly cooperative. The
Workshop is devoted to the investigation of the main issues related to the
sustainable realization of tele-laboratories, where real and virtual
instrumentation can be shared and used in a collaborative environment. Such
issues are related, but not limited to, multimedia communications and
networking, sensor networks, GRID technology, Quality of Service (QoS)
provisioning and control, network management, measurement instrumentation
and methodology, architecture of measurement systems. The Workshop also
represents the closing event of the project "Technological Network for
Telecommunication Measurement Instrumentation", funded by the Italian
Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), within the framework
of the European Union, which was carried out by the CNIT National Laboratory
for Multimedia Communications in Naples and the CNIT Research Unit at the
University of Catania. The Workshop will be structured in technical sessions
organized by leading researchers and will accommodate invited and regular
papers selected on an open-call basis. The technical program will also
include a poster session, where presentations will refer to short papers
reporting prominent - but still in progress - research work. All submissions
will be peer-reviewed by three members of the International Program
Committee.
Contributions are solicited on all advanced research issues concerning the
theme of the Workshop, and particularly in (but not limited to) the
following topics, corresponding to the Technical Sessions:
- Tele-measurement Techniques for Telecommunication Systems
- Technologies for Real-Time Interactive Multimedia Communications
- Data Acquisition and Aggregation in Sensor Networks
- Architectural Settings for the Management of Tele-measurements and
Tele-laboratories
- Remote Configuration, Monitoring and Management of Networks and Networking
Devices
- GRID Structures for Cooperative Distributed Laboratories
- Virtual Reality and Immersive Technologies for Distance Learning
Paper Submission Guidelines
Manuscripts to be considered as regular papers should be original work
limited to 20 double-spaced pages. Work-in-progress papers to be considered
for the poster session should be limited to 10 double-spaced pages. Any
paper submitted to the Workshop must not have been published in or submitted
to other technical conferences/journals. Only electronic submissions will be
accepted. The preferred format for electronic submission is PDF suitable for
Acrobat Reader, or Postscript All submissions must be done through the Web
site (http://www.tyrrhenian.cnit.it) or sent by e-mail to the workshop
