Hi:

I've been using Sylpheed for many years now, since version 0.6 or so. Usually
I use Version 1.0.4, which has been more than adequate for my needs. I
wanted to upgrade to Version 2.2, to hopefully solve a problem with my ISP
that has recently occured (another long story which we shall ignore).

So, I have been upgrading my GTK libraries, by fetching souce and doing a
local build/make install on my SuSE 8.2 system. I have gotten into a
problem, in that I cannot get past the complaint

"relocation error: /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol:
g_bsearch_array_new"

which is preventing me from building the latest Sylpheed, and also from
running other packages, Realplayer, Firefox, etc.

I have seemingly determined that g_bsearch_array_new is in libglib-2.0.so

I have installed glib-2.9.6 but even that does not work.

Can anyone please suggest the best way to resolve this issue? What is causing
it? Upgrading to Suse 10 is not a preferred option, this is only a 600 MH P3
machine.

TIA.

Roger Pryor
