Hi,
Longtime user, first time poster. I love sylpheed. Let me tell you how I broke it :).
I have to use a SSH tunnel to get through a firewall sometimes, so I have two accounts set up. One \
accesses my POP mailbox directly, the other through the tunnel via localhost. This generates two UIDL \
files, one like mail.speakeasy.*-elliot and the other localhost.*-elliot.
I thought I'd get clever and replace the two separate files with symlinks to a single file, so that \
updates to the UIDL file for localhost and speakeasy would both update the same file.
Somehow, I got my UIDL file(s) out of sync with reality. It is now missing (and sylpheed is consequently \
trying to download) the first 450 e-mails from the server, which I don't want it to do b/c I've already \
downloaded them, filed, selectively deleted, etc.
Three questions.
1) Does anyone else do this kind of thing? Two web addresses pointing to the same POP mail server? How \
do you manage the accounts?
2) Is there an easy way to get my UIDL file(s) and the POP server back in sync so that it won't try to \
re-download 450 emails? Or is it easier to just delete the first 450 mails off the POP server, which I \
plan to eventually do once things are settled?
3) The most general set of questions. What is the format of the UIDL file? Looks like UIDL, then a \
timestamp. What is this last timestamp? Is it the date that the mail was fetched? Does sylpheed fetch \
all mails for which there is no entry in the UIDL file?
If anyone else is in my shoes, they'll be glad to know these answers. If not, at least I will :). If \
anyone's interested, I can post about my tunnelling workarounds when I get it fully working.
Thanks,
Elliot.
