IMHO following GNOME HIG (or any other HIG) doesn't mean you're
customizing your app for this or that desktop environment. I haven't
read it myself, but I am pretty sure that many (if not most) guidelines
there are desktop-agnostic, and are essentially related to GUI design
and usefulness. This is what James was referring to AFAICS.

(... and FWIW I must say I agree with him regarding his last post and
other ones about GUI design, such as the default behavior of the ENTER
action on the addressbook)

Sure, everybody could (should) contribute to opensource projects,
that's one of the beauties of being opensource. However, bringing it up
for discussion is also extremely important, whether you intend to
contribute with code or not -- and IMHO it's in the best interest of the
community that we discuss these things, even if they never come to be.
Also, you made your (valid) point saying you couldn't care less about
it, but maybe others (maybe even Hiroyuki) do care about it, and help
with coding.

And, of course, let's not forget the ultimate decision is Hiro's, so any
discussion is valid until he gives the final word ;)

Best,

Andre
