Here is little hack if you don't mind compiling from the sources
(0.9.2cvs1 in my case).

bash$ cd sylpheed-xxx/src
bash$ grep -n -H color_new mainwindow.c
mainwindow.c:844:       folderview->color_new.red = (guint16)55000;
mainwindow.c:845:       folderview->color_new.green = folderview->color_new.blue = 15000;
mainwindow.c:849:       color[2] = folderview->color_new;

Lines 844 and 845 is what you need to change.
