the various selection bugs that i see and can easily reproduce:

(1) the shift-select problem

when you first blip into a folder, a message is selected. using the
shift-key and selecting any other message works as expected.
HOWEVER. if you start delete/move/etc messages, then the behavior
changes. once you are not on the first message, you hit shift-<click>
on a target message, you get one of two selection behaviors:

  - all but the originally hilighted message, or,
  - the bottom of the original message thread through what you click on

the only fix i've seen so far is to click on the title of the currently
highlighted message, then shift-<click> on the last message to highlight,
and it works like expected.

if you fail to click on that current message, tho, you get weird
results.

(2) the fetching-new-mail problem

if you have some messages highlighted, or have scrolled around in the
list of messages looking for the next one to read (eg, think about
a list-serv like sylpheed mail ... i don't read all the msgs, just
scan for interesting titles/authors) ...

when sylpheed starts to scan new mail, it locks the interface from
move/delete/etc, but when it comes back, it automatically unhighlights
everything you may have selected (with shift- or ctrl-<click>), and
rescrolls the title/subject/date pane back to the first/original
message selected in a multi-select (or even single-select) setting.
this is _really_ _really_ irritating. it ought to leave my selections
alone and should not scroll my view away from (roughly) where it's at.
