i think it would be an intresting feature to clearly warn the user if he
tries to violate standards.

there should be an option "allow standards violation" that if isn't
triggered would prevent from doing things like disabling line-wrap, not
using "-- " as sig separator, not using at all a sig separator, etc...

PS: moreover, but is should be not-trivial to write (and i'm *not*
offering myself), it should be nice to warn user if he tried to do
stupid things like quoting entire messages at the end of the mail, or
anyway quoting 20 lines when his reply contains only one line, etc...
