Look into the ActionScript object TextSnapshot.
There was also an older post for doing a search and select of text with it.

  All,

  I recently ran head first into some of the short-comings of FlashPaper so I started \
using PDF2SWF instead.

  Two of the things I had to give up were the ability to cut and paste text and to \
search text. If I am correct (I could be wrong), PDF2SWF converts each character to \
curves, thus there is no "text" in the resulting SWF file.

  I had read in a (really) old post that someone said that they were looking into \
adding the text-to-text conversion, but they needed a Actionscript coder to help out.

  I am now offering that assistance.

  Leif
