hello,

we also use 'em (very) extensively on x86 -- without any problems; we 
have a few gateways running [token ring <-> ethernet], one of them 
with three smc's and one ibm tr-card -- runs rock stable...

unfortunately i was not able the last days to access my computers at 
home (no time for that :(, but i think that after the weekend i can 
give more precise information on this problem.

the machine just hangs (seldom seen before) when trying to enable 
eth1 (i.e. the smc card).
