Learn to write an addin library for Excel (or the
equivalent in whatever spreadsheet you have
available), making data base access/data retrieval
as easy as calling an Excel function. Then declare
report /writing/ an user  problem!

(In our case, a large part of the need/desire for
reports evaporated when users could simply access
data on demand and *easily* do whatever they
needed themselves.)
