I don't know much about RedHat. I suspect the problem is caused by the
default umask used in the default SuSe ftp setup which assumes that if
you want everyone to be able to read your uploads you wil change the
permissions accordingly. Some ftp clients allow you to set the
permissions using the umask option. For those that don't I solved this by
changing the command line for ftp in inetd.conf to include the -u
parameter. I can't remember the exact details now at home, but I will
check tomorrow.
