I got all excited when I saw that Koffice was on the latest
cover disc...until I got to the bit that said it required
KDE2...which is apparently now out of beta.

I'm still not very good with installation of packages. I
navigated through the CDrom using netscape - and when I arrived
at the rpms assumed I could just double click to trigger the
install.

(OK - so I assume I need to modify the MIME map files (where
are they?) to do this)

What 'package' should I point them to? I have never got
Kpackage to to anything useful. Karchiver has worked though
and installed CorelPaint9 for me (although I'm not sure
that it installed it in the right place). In fact - it
created an 'install' folder from which it was possible to
run the installation programs. Can this be done
directly from the CD archive without copying tens of megabytes
of installation code - only to reinstall the actual code
somewhere else...OK I suppose I could delete the installation
folder now, but it seems a bit round about.

Which brings me back to KDE2. It would appear that I need
to upgrade various libraries, including Qt one. Is this likely
to leave my current KDE in a state of disarray (or do the two versions
coexist?)

Should all this be done outside the GUI by changing inittab back to
a console login?

Has anyone installed KDE2? Well - obviously, yes - but anyone here
wish to comment on any problems?
